Abbie & Jordan | Saint Mary’s, Peterborough | Our Wedding Day | 2nd July 2016

I am dedicating these photographs to Alfie, the Grandfather of the groom, Jordan. Alfie was chosen as the original photographer for this beautiful wedding but unfortunately he had to give up his profession due to three strokes. In his own words, he told me that he could not risk letting his Grandson down on his biggest day. On finding out this information, I felt that I had to make Alfie proud, since he was an award winning photographer, with a lifetime experience of photography and the Grandfather. I had to be on top form and felt that I had to come up with something special.

The day began at Abbie’s place of work, “Just 4 cutz”, a hair salon in Peterborough. Abbie and her bride team, Rosie, Sophie and Daniella, had their make up and hair styled there. Making her debut for make up, was qualified MUA Kiya Ebony. This was Kiya’s first wedding after qualification for make up, and although she specialises in film and theatre, from my experience, they are one of the best for creating the perfect contours for weddings. Kiya did magnificently in both make up and her professionalism whilst keeping cool… keep a look out Cambridgeshire for this fine talented MUA. After the make up and hair, the bride and her team drove to the Abbie’s house to fit her into the wedding dress. Abbie got changed in the most perfect of rooms with natural light and I exposed more of  my creative skills. However, with the time ticking and the traffic looming there was only one outcome…a fashionable late bride!

When I legally drove to the church of Saint Mary, near the passport office in Peterborough, I met the Vicar, Michael, who gave me the low down. I was overwhelmed by the natural but bright light coming into this modern looking church. And then it hit the groom, Jordan. As soon as the bride walked down the aisle and he felt the presence and the magic of marriage, Jordan shed a tear. This is something magical, that the body reacts in that way. The ceremony was beautiful and for the second time in a row, my favourite part of the bible was read out…Corinthians 13. This part of the bible is all about love and one of the most powerful words I have ever read.

“3 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging symbol. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” – Corinthians 13

Abbie, Jordan and I had discussed a few possible destinations for the bride and groom photo shoot. Possibilities were Denton All saints church or the gardens outside Peterborough cathedral. With a last minute decision to go towards Peterborough Cathedral on Vineyard road, the gorgeously romantic white Rolls Royce dropped us off at the gardens. Without a recce and put on the spot, I had seconds to take in, analyze and prepare a photoshoot. I did not disappoint. With experience in all rigorous conditions, I prepared a photoshoot circuit within seconds and I can safely say that Abbie and Jordan can back me up on this claim. I thrive on stone walls and trees, and what I was surrounded by was just that. Once complete our driver took us to the reception where Alfie gave me nothing but praise and an invite to Newcastle…
