Aija and Iulian | Our Wedding Day at Rutland Water | Normanton Church | Normanton Park Hotel | 14th September 2017
Floating on a reservoir like a fairy tale, Normanton Church gracefully makes a grand statement on the lake of Rutland water. And that statement is that it still stands. Nearly facing demolition only a few decades ago, this church not only keeps its history as a museum inside, but it boasts its grandeur on the reservoir.
Carrying out a recce with my little family on a warm sunny afternoon, I knew I needed something special for this venue. I needed something new from Olympus, I needed something that wasn’t going to hold me back (literally, so that I wouldn’t fall in the water) and checking their latest lenses I discovered their super wide 7-14mm f/2.8 lens. The lens arrived in time for the wedding of Aija and Iulian and I can’t explain in words how amazing this lens is but I can show you in photography. The structure of Normanton church along with the waters surrounding it gives that destination wedding feel, especially with the Greek style pillars.
The reception for Aija and Iulian’s wedding was at Normanton Park Hotel, just a few minutes stroll from the church. The hotel itself has beautiful spots for photography too. I was honoured to be part of Aija and Iulian’s wedding guest list too, placing me on the table plan. After the wedding breakfast, there was a boat ride on the reservoir which was met with a mild storm. However this storm was very brief and creeping towards sunset, we were able to go back to the church for more photos. This was thanks to John, a keeper of Normanton church, who gave us the privacy we needed for the late afternoon shoot. The church is very popular with weddings and has multiple weddings each day, so time is strict.
I am keeping this journal very simple because words cannot express how awesome this venue is. So enjoy my latest and greatest.
