Amy and Jonny | Our wedding day | Anstey Hall | Cambridge | 7th April 2017

Tucked away on the outskirts of Cambridge, is a charming 17th century English country house, Anstey Hall. Family owned with pride and passion, this was the perfect venue setting for my first wedding of 2017. Every aspect of Anstey hall had so many pleasant surprises; the food, quirky contrasting decor and splendid rooms. Photography, being a Greek word, focuses on the word ‘light’ and on this marvelous wedding day for Amy and Jonny, the weather gave me all the light I needed. One was also lucky enough to have breakfast with Madrid’s top blogger and bridesmaid, Betsy Li. I often find with wedding photography, one must breathe in, absorb and be influenced by every single aspect of the day. Betsy was an inspiration and told me about Amy’s hen party that took place in the not so ‘Hen’ City of Munich.  I often find as a fine artist by nature, that rules are irrelevant and breaking trends assist to evolve something much more beautiful.

Entering the relaxed bridal room fueled with the most amazing homemade breakfast, the door opened to the very elegant make up artist, Katie, who was making her magic with the bridal team. In charge of the hair was the very creative Tracey, owner of Cambridge Hair, who put together (even though jet lagged) beautiful roses to her fine hair styling of the bridal team. This wedding throughout the day had the feel that we were all invited to Amy and Jonny’s house, rather than a wedding venue. Everywhere you looked there were personal, handmade touches. Amy created nearly every single detail to the wedding such as the confetti pouches, table decor, table plans and an array of decorations. Her father, Peter, was the florist and put together a sensational set of wedding flowers and bouquets. Peter had carefully dried out rose and flower petals for the confetti.

Keeping to the subject of confetti, this wedding had not one, not two but three confetti blitzes and one of them produced one of my personal bests. In fact, there was so much confetti in the first scene that the confetti created a shingling sound which was ethereal and loud! You just need to look at the bridesmaids’ faces in the foreground to establish how magical this shot was. And this is exactly the theme for this wedding, magic…

Jonny and I are so happy that we bumped into Nikos at our very 1st wedding fair and booked him in August 2015. Soon after then we had our engagement shoot in the grounds of Darwin College, Cambridge. We were so happy with the photos and had such a fun day with Nikos. We then kept in touch for the 2 days and then 7th April 2017 finally arrived and Nikos was there bright and early to capture our wedding at Anstey Hall. Us and our guests enjoyed having Nikos and his friendly and fun outlook at our wedding and he did an amazing job capturing the day and the fireworks in the evening. The turn around for the photos was so quick too! Can’t wait to now pick the photos of our album! 🙂 Thanks again Nikos! Jonny & Amy Lay xx
